Main Goal

To enhance access to services and needs of persons with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus disabilities in targeted areas of Tanzania and prevent the new generation with this kind of disabilities.

Objectives

To achieve the set goal, SBHD aims to accomplish the following Strategic Objectives:           

  1. Advocacy for children’s and adults’ rights with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (SBH) is strengthened
  2. Education on the causes, prevention, and treatment of Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus.
  3. The health and development of children and young people with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (SBH) disabilities has been strengthened.        Benefit; improving their quality and enabling them to participate effectively in society.
  4. Access to quality and inclusive primary, secondary and skills education for children with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (SBH) is enhanced.
  5. Facilitation and promotion of economic activities for families of children and young people with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (SBH) are improved.      

  

RESIDENTIAL HOUSE

SBHD Foundation also has a Centre called ‘’ SBHD HOUSE OF JOY’’        ‘’House of Joy’’ is a center which was design to support the parents with their children with hydrocephalus and Spinal Bifida disability who came from different Region within Tanzania and come to Dar es Salaam for the treatment of their children, but they don’t have relative here in Dar es salaam, so they can stay here for the entire treatment period.

Activities within House of Joy

  • Accommodation and food support for parents and their children.
  • Transport support from House of Joy to hospital (go and return).
  • Training on food Nutrition for the parents with the children of Spina bifida and hydrocephalus.
  • Training on Economic Empowerment. (Entrepreneurship Skills)
  • Parents also receive the psychological treatment to ensure that the parents are not affected by mental health symptoms (psychological effect) due to presence of a child with disability of Spina bifida and hydrocephalus in the family. 

REHABILITATION CENTER

SBHD Foundation also has a Rehabilitation Centre called ‘’ SBHD Rehabilitation Center’’   

SBHD serve patients who have undergone surgery, people who are living with severe physical impairments following amputation, as well as children with long-term disabilities like cerebral palsy and Spina bifida

SBHD Physical Rehabilitation Department aims to increase the motor skills, mobility and self-confidence of people living with physical impairments in reducing the consequences of impairment, through the provision of accessicble, affordable, appropriate quality medical, therapy and community rehabilitation services for people with disability, prioritizing children
